Kwankwaso Denies Exit from ADC, Confirms Ongoing Talks with PRP, NDC
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports suggesting he has exited the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that no final decision has been made regarding his political future.
In a statement addressing recent speculation, Kwankwaso clarified that while discussions are ongoing with stakeholders across multiple political platforms including the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the New Democratic Congress (NDC), he remains a member of the ADC.
He attributed the Current uncertainty within the party to ongoing legal challenges. According to him, a recent Supreme Court ruling affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark led National Working Committee but returned the matter to the High Court, leaving the party in a fragile state. He further noted that a Federal High Court judgment has invalidated the party’s recent convention, while the Attorney General of the Federation has initiated legal proceedings seeking the deregistration of the ADC.
Kwankwaso explained that his earlier departure from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was due to externally influenced legal disputes that made continued membership untenable, adding that the ADC now faces similar pressures.
“As a result, we have commenced extensive consultations with key stakeholders and leaders across political divides to determine the best course of action in safeguarding our democratic interests,” he said, assuring that a final decision would be communicated in due course.
On speculation surrounding a potential presidential bid, Kwankwaso reiterated that he has neither declared any intention to contest nor endorsed any aspirant. He emphasized that the ADC has yet to zone its presidential ticket or make any official decision on candidacy, describing claims to the contrary as premature.
Highlighting his track record, Kwankwaso noted his participation in the 2014 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, where he finished second to Muhammadu Buhari, and his subsequent support for the party’s victory. He also recalled contesting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket in 2019, after which he backed Atiku Abubakar and served as the campaign’s Northern coordinator.
He stressed his longstanding commitment to party unity and national interest over personal ambition.
Kwankwaso also clarified that his absence from two recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to unavoidable personal commitments, noting that he had formally communicated his apologies to the party leadership.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to continued engagement with political stakeholders, stating that any definitive position on his political direction would be formally announced through appropriate channels.
I’m yet to leave ADC, but discussions are underway with PRP and NDC.Clarification on My Political Position
We have noted recent media reports and discussions suggesting a possible realignment within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to the current challenges facing the party.
In light of the misleading narratives in the public domain, I wish to state categorically that no final decision has been taken regarding my political future or that of my political associates.
The recent Supreme Court judgment, while affirming the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC), also remitted the matter back to the High Court. This has left the party in a precarious position.
In addition, the Federal High Court has recently ruled to delegitimise the party’s recent convention. The Attorney General of the Federation has also strangely applied to a Federal High Court to deregister the ADC.
We left the NNPP due to externally influenced legal problems that made our stay perilous. The ADC has now been also forced into this difficulty.
Consequently, like other major stakeholders, we have commenced wide-ranging consultations — including with leaders from the NDC, PRP and others to explore the best options for protecting our democratic interests. We shall announce our decision in the soonest possible time.
On the issue of presidential candidacy, I wish to recall my consistent record as a committed democrat. In the 2014 APC presidential primary, I came second to President Muhammadu Buhari (whom I fully supported to victory), with Atiku Abubakar third, Rochas Okorocha fourth, and the late Sam Nda-Isaiah fifth. Similarly, in 2019, I contested the PDP presidential ticket and immediately supported the winner, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, serving as the campaign’s coordinator in the North. I have always placed national interest and party unity above personal ambition.
Furthermore, the ADC is yet to zone its presidential ticket or take any decision on a candidate. I have therefore neither declared any intention to run for president nor endorsed any aspirant. All speculations to the contrary are premature and unfounded.
My absence from the two recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to unavoidable personal commitments. I promptly communicated my apologies to the party leadership.
We shall continue to engage constructively at all levels. Any definitive position on our political direction will be communicated formally through official channels at the appropriate time.

APC Faces Backlash Over Substitution of National Assembly Primary Winners Ahead of 2027 Elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has come under heavy criticism following its decision to alter the list of candidates who emerged from its National Assembly primaries, raising fresh concerns about internal democracy and the credibility of the party’s candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) mocked the APC for substituting the names of some primary winners with others, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) described the move as reckless, and the Labour Party (LP) condemned it as undemocratic. The APC, however, told the opposition to mind its own business and focus on the crises rocking their respective parties, insisting that the changes reflected fairness and the wishes of its members.
Last week, the APC directed its state chapters to release the list of candidates for the 2027 elections and issued Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination forms for completion and submission. The development triggered mixed reactions, with some aspirants who were declared winners alleging they had been replaced after the May Primary Election Appeal Commission reviewed petitions from the primaries.
Reports indicate that the APC National Working Committee (NWC) overturned the victories of several senatorial candidates and restored six serving senators in nine states based on the recommendations of its appeal committee. The revised list affected senatorial primaries in Kogi, Abia, Benue, Taraba, Ondo, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna, and Ebonyi states.
Among those restored were Senators Sunday Karimi (Kogi West), Emmanuel Udende (Benue North-East), Titus Zam (Benue North-West), Shuaibu Isa Lau (Taraba North), Adeniyi Adegbonmire (Ondo Central), and Olajide Ipinsagba (Ondo North). In Abia South, Prince Paul Ikonne, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority, replaced Edinburgh Erondu.
One notable casualty was former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, whose victory in the Benue North-East primary was nullified in favour of incumbent Senator Emmanuel Udende. The changes have sparked internal disagreements and legal concerns in several states.
Reacting to the development, the PDP described the APC’s action as evidence of a deepening internal crisis, confusion, and lack of transparency. PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed told newsmen that his party would capitalise on the situation to reclaim power.
“With the change of the candidate list, there is confusion in the APC. Let them continue to remain in confusion. It is our joy to see that they remain in confusion so that we can take advantage of that and take over power,” Mohammed said. He added that the PDP remained open to welcoming politicians who felt unfairly treated by their parties, citing recent joiners like Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo and Prof. Isa Pantami.
The Labour Party condemned the substitutions as an aberration and a mockery of the Electoral Act. LP National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa said his party had consistently respected primary outcomes and did not replace winners with non-participants. He recalled similar controversies before the 2023 elections and criticised the lack of repercussions for such actions.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) warned that the crisis could trigger internal discontent that might cost the APC in 2027. ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi told newsmen that the substitutions had left many APC members bitter and aggrieved. He stressed that the ADC would not replace duly elected primary winners except in cases of voluntary withdrawal, highlighting its use of direct, competitive primaries.
The SDP described the development as undemocratic but maintained it was an internal affair of the APC. SDP National Publicity Secretary Rufus Aiyenigba said his party would not dignify the APC’s “recklessness” with extensive comments, focusing instead on providing alternative solutions to Nigeria’s problems ahead of 2027.
However, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, defended the APC’s right to handle its internal affairs. He cited Supreme Court positions affirming parties’ authority to nominate candidates through their mechanisms, including appeal processes, and noted similar approaches by other parties like the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC also backed the principle of party substitutions. Its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, told newsmen that Section 84 of the Electoral Act allows parties flexibility in candidate selection, whether through direct primaries or consensus. He denied allegations of imposition within the NDC and said the party was addressing grievances to prevent members from leaving.
Defending the APC’s decision, the party’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, said the changes followed due process through the appeal mechanism and reflected fairness, justice, and the wishes of members. He dismissed the opposition as fractured platforms and urged them to address their own problems.
“It shows fairness and justice. It shows the willingness of our party to go by the wishes of the people,” Ibrahim stated, adding that the APC remained committed to democratic principles and carrying members along.
The revised candidate list and ongoing disputes have created uncertainty over the APC’s nominations as INEC has warned it would reject candidates who did not emerge from properly monitored primaries.

Agbazuere Declares Support for Otti, Says Opposition to Governor’s 2027 Re-election Bid Is “Fighting the Choice of God”
A former Chief of Staff to the Abia State Government, Prof. ACB Agbazuere, has declared that anyone campaigning against the re-election of Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 governorship election is opposing what he described as “the choice of God.”
Prof. Agbazuere made the assertion while speaking on the political future of Abia State, expressing strong confidence in Governor Otti’s leadership and the achievements of his administration since assuming office.
According to him, the governor’s emergence and performance in office are evidence of divine providence, insisting that the people of Abia State should continue to support the administration in order to sustain its developmental agenda.
“Anyone campaigning against Governor Alex Otti in 2027 wants to fight the choice of God,” Agbazuere stated.
The former government official maintained that Governor Otti has demonstrated commitment to good governance through infrastructure development, public sector reforms and efforts aimed at improving service delivery across the state. He argued that these achievements have strengthened public confidence in the administration and positioned the governor favourably ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Agbazuere further urged political stakeholders and residents of the state to remain focused on supporting policies that promote development rather than engaging in premature political campaigns capable of distracting the government from its responsibilities.
His comments are expected to generate political debate, particularly as discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum despite the election still being some time away.
While supporters of Governor Otti have continued to commend the administration’s performance, opposition political parties and other stakeholders are expected to present alternative visions for the state as preparations for the next governorship election gradually begin.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from opposition political parties regarding Prof. Agbazuere’s remarks.

Former Abia Lawmaker Accuses APC Chairman of Deception, Vows He Will Be Held Accountable
A former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwu Apugo, has accused the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief Chijioke Chukwu, of deceiving him during a visit to his residence, in a development that could further heighten tensions within the party.
Speaking during an interview, Apugo alleged that the state APC chairman made commitments during the meeting which were later not honoured, leaving him disappointed and questioning the sincerity of the party’s leadership.
The former lawmaker expressed his frustration over the incident, declaring that the chairman would eventually be held accountable for his actions.
“Abia APC Chairman Chijioke Chukwu came to my house and deceived me. He will pay dearly for it,” Apugo said.
While the former legislator did not immediately provide detailed information about the circumstances surrounding the alleged deception or the specific promises he claimed were made, his remarks have generated fresh debate among party members over the state of internal relations within the Abia APC.
The allegation comes amid growing concerns over unity and leadership within the party, as stakeholders continue to call for greater transparency, dialogue and reconciliation to address internal disagreements.
As of the time of filing this report, Chief Chijioke Chukwu had not publicly responded to the allegations made by Hon. Apugo. It remains unclear whether the party leadership will issue an official statement or take steps to address the dispute.
Political analysts believe that unresolved internal conflicts could affect the party’s cohesion ahead of future political activities, underscoring the need for party leaders and stakeholders to pursue peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement in resolving differences.
This remains a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available or as other parties involved respond to the allegations.
