STATEMENT FROM CHIEF OBINNA NWACHUKWU, FORMER DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF THE PDP IN ABIA STATE
"We urge Senator Akobundu to sustain regular connections with the people he serves. While he is undertaking commendable work, it is imperative for him to keep the community informed about his initiatives. Consistent meetings and open communication will help bridge the gap between him and his constituents.

In an interview with the former Deputy Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Chief Obinna Nwachukwu, he said that the Abia Central PDP remains united and resilient. That their foremost request is for consistent communication with the senator, and no member of the PDP in Abia Central has distanced themselves from the party; that they strongly adhere to its principles. Abia Central holds a vital position in shaping leadership within Abia State, and they will steadfastly support the PDP. The recent assembly of dedicated PDP leaders and citizens from Abia was a powerful affirmation of support for Senator Akobundu, illustrating their collective backing for him.
“We urge Senator Akobundu to sustain regular connections with the people he serves. While he is undertaking commendable work, it is imperative for him to keep the community informed about his initiatives. Consistent meetings and open communication will help bridge the gap between him and his constituents.
It is important to highlight that when the senator initiates projects, the state government often claims credit, which leads to confusion regarding the true source of responsibility.
Therefore, as he drives development in Abia Central, he must engage with them and communicate his efforts so the community can acknowledge and appreciate his contributions.

Chief Nwachukwu said, Despite the hurdles encountered during the last election, they believe that the Abia Central PDP did not experience a loss; rather, they triumphed, although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially declared the wrong candidate.
Thankfully, the court later corrected it, affirming their rightful victory.

He said their confidence in Senator Colonel Akobundu remains unwavering;
“he is a man of integrity. Although we did not monitor the 2023 elections as closely as we could have, we are resolved to ensure our votes are recognized in the 2027 elections. We achieved victories across all our polling units, and we trust that INEC will uphold its commitments. While there were instances of manipulation, we believe that divine intervention played a role in restoring our rightful victory.”

He stated that Senator Akobundu’s genuine concern for the less privileged individuals within our community has been evident and appreciated. Looking ahead to 2027, should Senator Akobundu choose to pursue re-election, they will wholeheartedly support him and ensure that their votes accurately reflect the will of the people.
“Senator Akobundu has showcased his capabilities remarkably, transitioning from a successful military career to public service. He has adhered to the proper channels within the party, serving as zonal chairman and organizing secretary before announcing his candidacy for the Senate. His approach epitomizes a commitment to public service rather than a mere pursuit of power.”
Chief said Abia Central recognized senator Akobundu’s qualifications and elected him, and they firmly believe that God has favored him for his unwavering dedication to their community, and that the focus remains not solely on party affiliation but on the individual who has served them effectively.
“If Senator Akobundu continues to excel as a legislator, I encourage every member of Abia Central to support him in completing his term. Continuity in leadership is essential for building upon our progress. If he decides against running again, we can then evaluate other candidates capable of continuing his legacy.”
