The Abia State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers/cultists: Udaka Justin, Chukwuebuka Michael Nnebedun, and Prince David. During a stop-and-search operation, the police recovered a locally made pistol, live cartridges, a machete, battle axe, face mask, sachet of substances, suspected Indian hemp, and an auto-rickshaw. The suspects are in custody, and investigations are ongoing. The Commissioner of Police encourages the community to report suspicious activities.

On 23/08/2025 at about 9:30pm, operatives of the Quick Intervention Unit (QIU), Abia State Police Command, while conducting stop-and-search operations at Umuagu by School Signboard, flagged down an autorickshaw (Keke Napep) with registration number MBL801VJ, blue in colour, carrying five occupants including the rider.

The rider pretended that the tricycle had developed a fault when stopped, giving room for two of the occupants to jump out and escape. However, three suspects were apprehended, who identified themselves as:
•Udaka Justin, male, 36yrs of Akata Village, Orlu East LGA, Imo State;
•Chukwuebuka Michael Nnebedun male, 24yrs, of Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA, Imo State; and
•Prince David (24), of Arodizuogu, Ideato North LGA, Imo State.

Upon searching the suspects, operatives recovered the following exhibits: one locally made short pistol, three live cartridges, one double-edged machete, one battle axe, one black face mask, and one sachet of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp and the Auto-rickshaw ( keke napep)

The suspects and recovered exhibits have been taken into custody, while investigation is ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reiterates the Command’s commitment to reducing crime in Abia State to the barest minimum.

A security guard named David Moses allegedly conspired with his friend, Sunday Irimiya, to kidnap and murder a 55-year-old school nurse, Chinyere Anaene, and a 14-month-old child, Nanenter Asher Yese, at Clear Hope Foundation Academy in Abuja’s Dawaki area. The motive behind the heinous crime was reportedly a dispute over ransom money.

Moses and Irimiya demanded ₦250 million in ransom from the victims’ families, later settling for ₦3 million. According to Moses’ confession, he lured the nurse to a toilet under false pretenses, where Irimiya strangled her with a rope. The child was later killed at Irimiya’s insistence.

Moses was arrested after a police investigation, and he confessed to the crime. The police also arrested the school principal, two other security guards, and the Chief Security Officer of the private security firm for possible negligence and conspiracy.

The police are still working to apprehend Sunday Irimiya, who is currently at large.

It’s worth noting that the incident has sparked widespread outrage, and the police are working to ensure justice is served

Following a report received by the Command on 12th April 2025 regarding a kidnapping incident that occurred at Afojide Market, Isuochi, operatives of the Command’s Intelligence Response Unit (IRU), acting on credible intelligence, in conjunction with other command tactical teams successfully rescued three kidnapped victims namely
Ifeanyi Nnabuife (male), Onyedikachi Peter Onyegsi (male), and Amarachi Nwaebubu (female) on 12th July 2025

In the course of the operation, a red Lexus 350 Jeep, two million naira cash (part of the ransom payment), three mobile phones, and two leg chain shackles were recovered and other items. Some kidnappers connected with the heinous crime have been apprehended and currently undergoing interrogation .
