SENATOR AKOBUNDU CONCLUDES FIVE-DAY SKILLS ACQUISITION TRAINING, PRESENTS START-UP PACKAGES TO PARTICIPANTS

The Office of the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Austin Akobundu has successfully concluded a five-day intensive skills acquisition programme for women and youths across Abia Central

The training, which attracted nearly 100 participants drawn from the six local government areas of Abia Central, Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa south and North, Umuahia South and North, Ikwuano, covered various vocational fields including paint production, perfume making, soap production, and other entrepreneurial skills designed to promote self-reliance and economic empowerment.

Addressing the participants, Senator Akobundu commended their dedication and active participation throughout the programme. Despite his busy legislative schedule, the lawmaker made time to personally interact with the trainees, reaffirming his commitment to youth and women empowerment. He pledged to continue championing initiatives aimed at nurturing and developing the next generation of entrepreneurs within the senatorial district.

Senator Akobundu was accompanied by key members of his entourage, led by his Senior Legislative Aide, Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi. Other notable figures present included former Commissioner for Intergovernmental Affairs, Prince Obinna Okey; former Ikwuano Local Government Area Chairmen, Chief Clement Onukwue and Chief Stephen Mpamugo, former Ikwuano PDP Chairman, Deacon Obioma Igwe; former Deputy Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Pastor Ekeleme Ikeije, and former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Dr. Ugochukwu Ezeribe, among others.

In her remarks, Mrs. Onu, a representative of the Federal College of Cooperative, Oji River, which partnered in the project, lauded the Senator’s initiative. She described the programme as a practical demonstration of effective representation and reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to sustain collaboration with the Senator in future empowerment initiatives. She subsequently presented certificates of participation to the trainees.

As part of efforts to support the beneficiaries in launching their ventures, Senator Akobundu, through his Senior Legislative Aide, presented startup grants of ₦200,000 to each participant. He urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds in establishing and growing their businesses, assuring them of continued support.

The participants expressed profound appreciation to the Senator for the opportunity, describing the initiative as impactful and transformative.

The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Sen. Austin Akobundu has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising youth training and empowerment as a key component of his legislative agenda.

Speaking during an inspection visit at Kolpin Media and Events Centre the senator met with youths and women currently undergoing training in paint production and cosmetology programmes sponsored by him. He emphasised that he remains dedicated to nurturing entrepreneurs across different sectors through sustained skills acquisition initiatives.

Akobundu, who serves as Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs noted that empowerment programmes with lasting impact are those focused on practical skills. He assured participants that they would receive start up funds upon completion of their training to enable them establish their own businesses.

The senator expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by beneficiaries of his previous empowerment programmes, noting that many are excelling in their respective fields. He urged current trainees to take the programme seriously and continuously improve their skills, expressing optimism that proper utilisation of the training would foster self-reliance.

In separate remarks on behalf of other participants and beneficiaries of the Empowerment, commended the senator for the initiative, describing it as timely given the country’s current economic realities.

They noted that the programme is gradually producing a new generation of entrepreneurs and prayed for continued success and strength for the lawmaker.
