ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT TO INTRODUCE MONTHLY STIPENDS FOR NYSC MEMBERS

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has revealed plans to initiate monthly stipend payments for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to state-owned institutions. The announcement was made on Friday during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Batch “B” Stream 1 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.

Speaking through Mrs. Nnanna Nkele Onu, representing the Abia State Commissioner for Youths and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, Governor Otti emphasized the NYSC’s vital role in fostering national integration and development. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the scheme’s capacity to instill patriotic values in young graduates.

“We are making plans to start paying a state monthly stipend, tailored to current economic realities, particularly for those posted to state-owned institutions,” 

The governor urged corps members to promote unity, harmony, and development across Abia State while encouraging them to manage their finances prudently by prioritizing savings and exploring business funding opportunities provided by the NYSC during their service year.

Otti also advised corps members to take security briefings seriously and maintain dedication and discipline throughout their service. The initiative is seen as a step toward supporting youth development and strengthening the NYSC’s impact in Abia State.
